Right Now- When Retired Player Only Products Ruled the Day

In the early 2000's, the trading card industry capitalized on the popularity of a category of player affectionately referred to as; fan favorites, retired greats, hall of famers, and legends. By issuing products consisting of checklists built entirely of players from yesteryear companies were able to tap into new collector markets. From Hank Aaron to Honus Wagner, all four manufacturers of baseball cards (Fleer, Donruss, Upper Deck and Topps) catered to middle aged collectors or former collectors who may not be as familiar with current players but certainly appreciated the opportunity to own cards of players from their youth. The added bonus, and therefore allure of these cards, was the fact that many of them were autographed or included pieces of game used or worn memorabilia from their childhood favorite players. Thus was born brands like Topps All-Time Fan Favorites and Topps Pristine Legends to name a few.
